Kauri Benchtop restoration

These wonderful clients came to us through our facebook page and we swiftly booked an onsite visit. They had some rotten timber windows, this benchtop and some other small maintenance items to get sorted! We advised our opinion that the bench best be removed and recoated somewhere other than the client's kitchen. Whilst the bench was away, we installed a temporary plywood top so their kitchen still had full functionality. This way they don't have a massive disruption to their lives in the form of sawdust, noise and no kitchen! Our original plan wasn't to completely strip the benchtop, however when we began sanding we realised the old coating was yellowed and failing. This meant three intense days of sanding to get it all the way back to bare timber ready for a new coat of food safe varnish. This was an awesome job as it's not everyday we get to play with a piece of history.
